34 agencies and schools are being honored for their hunger prevention work in Denver at the Whole Bellies This Holiday benefit for Elephant Talk. Elephant Talk distributes 50 tons of food a week and feeds 10,000 families each month with full groceries through six super pantries.
34 recipient agencies of the 2011 Grab & Give donation program will also be announced at the event. From 11/1 – 12/31, Whole Foods Market customers can purchase healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to feed families of four through the Grab & Give donation program. Meals include oatmeal, peanut butter, canned vegetables, and pasta. Last year, customers donated more than $1.1 million of dry goods in 8 weeks. This year’s recipients include Metro CareRing, Urban Peak, The Gathering Place, Action Center of Jefferson County, Douglass County Education Foundation, and the Denver Public Schools Food for Kids Backpack Program.
Murphy Huston (KOSI 101) will emcee and guests will enjoy appetizers, drinks, live music, and mission presentations from more than 15 agencies and school backpack programs. In addition to catered fare, 20 local food artisans will provide samples and products to guests.
